Did you know? ICBC moved the Abbotsford driver licence office in 2016. It's in the plaza at the northwest corner of Clearbrook Rd. and South Fraser Way.
Where to find helpful pages about taking ICBC tests and getting a BC licence.
Need to get a learner's licence?
ICBC's page showing what to know is here.
ICBC's online practice knowledge test
The practice knowledge test is here, a direct link to the specific ICBC page you need.
Remember that the practice questions are not the actual questions you'll see when you do your learner's exam.
Our Advice: In the actual exam it's necessary to pick the best answer of the four choices, so it's essential to understand, not just memorize, what is taught in the manual.
But... it's also true that certain questions must be answered by remembering the exact wording from the manual -- in which case the people who think they can just rely on "common sense" are lost.
Remember, too, that each actual question is accompanied by an illustration or picture, some of which must be looked at in detail to arrive at the correct answer.
A good strategy... If you find a question too difficult, use the Skip option -- move on to the next question. Possibly you can postpone dealing with that question until the end of the test, and if you already got a minimum of 40 out of 50, you'll have passed without having to get the tough one right.
One final thing: When you do your knowledge test, be sure to mark the actual answer you meant to mark. It's quite easy to press the wrong button.
Good luck!
Info about Class 5
If you
- already have a licence from out of BC
- have a BC Class 7 licence (the "N")
then info about the test can be found
here.
Lost your N sign?
Or it got stolen? Until you can replace it with an official sign, you can print a perfectly legal sign for temporary use at:

DriveABLE
Seniors are no longer being referred for a DriveAble exam.
If there are questions about a senior's abilities (mental and physical) to continue driving, an Enhanced Road Assessment will be conducted by ICBC. Information can be seen at
Moved? Need to change your address?
Anyone who moves needs to provide a change of address within ten days. It's easy these days because you can do it online.
Exception -- if you already have an Enhanced Licence, a change of address should be done by making an appointment at a Driver Services Centre.

New -
ICBC has an online practice quiz for people getting ready for their road test. The quiz, in multiple choice format, helps you to avoid important errors that people often make in the test.
Here's an actual question from the quiz:
Is it better to exaggerate or make longer shoulder checks so your examiner sees your actions and knows that you're not missing anything?
A. Yes, make long shoulder checks for the examiner to see.
B. Yes, make both long shoulder and mirror checks.
C. No, just do quick mirror checks and keep your eyes on the road.
D. No, make timely and appropriate shoulder checks while driving.
The correct answer is D.
ICBC explains: "Untimely or excessive shoulder checks take your eyes off important hazards in front and ahead of you. Your examiner will notice when you've checked appropriately."
Lots of people think the answer is A -- it's a popular bit of advice, but it's wrong.
So as we say, the quiz is recommended. By the way, if you repeat it four or five times, some questions will appear more than once, but you will get fresh questions each time.

Have your calendar and your learner's licence number handy, and be sure you know your keyword (your mother's maiden name -- spelled correctly).
Remember, you can keep checking back with ICBC to try to get a cancellation.
You can also, if you can afford to wait for hours at a Driver Services Centre, hang around and hope to get a stand-by test if someone doesn't show up. Call the above number for more details.
Remember -- ICBC charges $25 each time people don't show up for their road test appointment.
DrivesmartBC.ca
Not an ICBC page, but a great site for info about traffic laws, enforcement, techniques, and road safety. If you have a question, you can find the answer -- the site is very searchable -- or you can submit your question and receive an answer.
